'V' plotline comparison

V…  the new Daily Show?

"V"

“Imagine this. At a time of political turmoil, a charismatic, telegenic new leader arrives virtually out of nowhere. He offers a message of hope and reconciliation based on compromise and promises to marshal technology for a better future that will include universal health care.
The news media swoons in admiration -- one simpering anchorman even shouts at a reporter who asks a tough question: "Why don't you show some respect?!" The public is likewise smitten, except for a few nut cases who circulate batty rumors on the Internet about the leader's origins and intentions. The leader, undismayed, offers assurances that are soothing, if also just a tiny bit condescending: "Embracing change is never easy."

So, does that sound like anyone you know?

Oh, wait -- did I mention the leader is secretly a totalitarian space lizard who's come here to eat us?”

Hahahahahahahah!  Eh?  Is this entertainment or politics?  Well, it makes a point of sorts so politics it is!

I still have not watched an episode but doubt I put too much into it our OUT of it.  I just want to be entertained… Jack Bauer for Prez! <grin>.  That said, this show isn’t anti-Obama, the original series used some of the same plot points also.

As mentioned, I’ll watch this show… hopefully soon

Armed With A Deadly Burrito - October 14, 2009

Not much of a comment really but I found the title funny…

OCTOBER 14--A South Carolina teenager is facing a felony charge for throwing a "deadly missile" at a moving vehicle. The armament in question was a burrito.

Independence Day

“…I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.

You will think me transported with Enthusiasm but I am not. — I am well aware of the Toil and Blood and Treasure, that it will cost Us to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States. — Yet through all the Gloom I can see the Rays of ravishing Light and Glory. I can see that the End is more than worth all the Means. And that Posterity will tryumph in that Days Transaction, even altho We should rue it, which I trust in God We shall not…”

Tea Party!

For anyone following the news this tax season there have been a number of creative ONGOING protest related to the Government “stimulus” plan

Today on the way to work I spot this car with what HAS to be a tea bag hanging from the rear view mirror.  In Malaysia!  heh.

DSC00382

I suppose it could be a funky air freshener but it LOOKS like a tea bag.  It was much clearer in person so sorry for the pic quality.

I suppose that’s the good thing about having exemption! At least I "feel" better saying so.

Two children should be limit, says green guru

Sarah-Kate Templeton, Health Editor

COUPLES who have more than two children are being “irresponsible” by creating an unbearable burden on the environment, the government’s green adviser has warned.

Jonathon Porritt, who chairs the government’s Sustainable Development Commission, says curbing population growth through contraception and abortion must be at the heart of policies to fight global warming. He says political leaders and green campaigners should stop dodging the issue of environmental harm caused by an expanding population.

What “RUBBISH”!  Another example of a government thinking they know more about what is good for you than you do.  Nanny state!  And for what?  Global Warming?  Wow.  Read more if you must via the link…

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is wrong

Dr M is quoted a few times in an article from New Straits Times (NST) Jan 2.  The opening statement:

“Stop killing people, stop manufacturing weapons”

Now this was intended for Obama and basically calls the USA a bunch of killers.  By what standard?  Compared to who?  Dont believe he said it?  He then goes on to allege that the USA was too “fond of taking lives in order to achieve its objectives” but doesnt give any examples.  The reader can only assume he means Iraq?  The statement implies we have always been a particular way.  bleh.

Need more?

He then implies we have killed HUNDREDS of thousands of civilians.  Got any REAL stats Dr M?  That info was debunked a long time ago.  There isnt ANY military in the world that looks out for civilians like the US military and its allies.

Keep in mind as you read my reaction that his point will be that the US is WRONG and that all Jews are wrong and that there isnt any fault to be had by Hamas or others.

He goes on to say we shouldnt support the “Israeli war machine”.  Really?  Should we support Hamas instead?  This is a stupid thing to say… but I dont expect less from anyone in a Jew hating part of the world.  Dr M’s views are unknown to me but its never a good idea to support Jews in a muslim country now is it?

Then he accuses the USA of killing 500,000 children by sactions against Iraq.  That’s another stupid thing to say.  Never mind where any fault SHOULD be placed where in the hell did he get that number?  Death by sanction is a trackable statistic?  Does he even know what the sanctions were for or WHY the food and medical suppies didnt reach “the children"?  Why are we or anyone else responsible for paying for all of Iraq’s bills?  I guess the UN sanctions were not a problem?  He didnt bother to mention… just blame the USA.

Another thing is says is that our efforts to bring or allow the development of Democratic governments has killed a lot of people and isnt worth the effort.  Um, communism has killed a LOT of people… if you play the numbers game through history, the more authoritarian the goverment is, the worse their record.  The USA is a young country but our efforts and others like the US are why Dr M isnt speaking Japanese today.

Its unclear what conflicts sometimes from the article.  Too many general statements and accusations.

Next he wants Obama to sign the Kyoto Protocol and other such agreements.  Dr M has a screw loose… its NOT in the best interest of the USA to sign that stupid agreement.

Nexxxxt… he says the USA should show the UN more respect.  Scroll above for sanctions!!  How convenient to take a UN decision you dont like and blame the USA for your assumption of the result!

You can read the article yourself here:
“End Caveman attitude, Dr M tells Obama”

As you note the “caveman” comment and the stop supporting Israel stuff please note the below article.  Caveman?  Killing civilians?  The USA is NOT the problem nor does it seek to destroy civilians.  Why shouldn’t we support our allies?

The Conflict's Root Cause

January 2, 2009 Posted by John at 11:07 AM

We've seen similar photos before, but these seem especially shocking, and especially revealing, in the context of the disaster into which Hamas has plunged Palestinians living in Gaza. Here, a group of Palestinian boys who live in a "refugee camp" in southern Lebanon demonstrate against Israel's attack on Hamas. They have been raised from birth to view mass murder as a high calling and religious duty:

capt.11f12c6318544db5852796b13a3667a7.mideast_lebanon_israel_palestinians_bei101.jpg

This one is from the same demonstration; it looks like a Ku Klux Klan rally put on by children. The rocket is fake, but the Qurans are real:

capt.28c36f97f4094f078061a030230ba65f.mideast_lebanon_israel_palestinians_bei106.jpg

The depth of the evil on display here is difficult to comprehend.

Demonstrations on behalf of Hamas are going on throughout the Arab world; this one, from Delhi, India, is noteworthy in that protesters

make clear their real objective:

UPDATE: This one, from Jakarta, is charming, too. The banner reads, "Jews go to hell."

"And the KGB, I think, was an honorable place to work. And it, it gave people in the former Soviet Union, a communist country, an opportunity to do something important and worthwhile."

I think the clip says most of all that needs to be said.  Ted is crazy!  Honorable people can be found anywhere but history has already judged the KGB as a whole in a harsh way.

Congressional Motors

Via Malkin I found the below… I only copied half.  For the rest follow the links.  The amazing thing about proposing a bailout of this scope is that even if you do NOT buy a new car, Pelosi would have you pay for it anyway… in taxes.  The below illustrates that and more.  Enjoy!

Congressional Motors

“It's in the way you dress. The way you boogie down. The way you sign your unemployment check. You're a man who likes to do things your own way. And on those special odd-numbered Saturdays when driving is permitted, you want it in your car. It's that special feeling of a zero-emissions wind at your back and a road ahead meandering with possibilities. The kind of feeling you get behind the wheel of the Pelosi GTxi SS/Rt Sport Edition from Congressional Motors.

All new for 2012, the Pelosi GTxi SS/Rt Sport Edition is the mandatory American car so advanced it took $100 billion and an entire Congress to design it. We started with same reliable 7-way hybrid ethanol-biodeisel-electric-clean coal-wind-solar-pedal power plant behind the base model Pelosi, but packed it with extra oomph and the sassy styling pizazz that tells the world that 1974 Detroit is back again -- with a vengeance.

We've subsidized the features you want and taxed away the rest. With its advanced Al Gore-designed V-3 under the hood pumping out 22.5 thumping, carbon-neutral ponies of Detroit muscle, you'll never be late for the Disco or the Day Labor Shelter. Engage the pedal drive or strap on the optional jumbo mizzenmast, and the GTxi SS/Rt Sport Edition easily exceeds 2016 CAFE mileage standards. At an estimated 268 MPG, that's a savings of nearly $1800 per week in fuel cost over the 2011 Pelosi.”

Fake “banned” book list of Palin

Front page of obama campaign site has this logo inviting you to help stop the “smears”:

Know the Facts

I think thats great but if you click around the Obama site you find this entry – way to go Mark!  Did you not get the memo?  I realize there is a disclaimer but given the “Fight the Smears” lip service I would think they might at least make an effort internally.

Im including below most of the link above, comments too, should it suddenly “disappear”.  Note that the banned book list is a KNOWN false story about Palin.  Emphasis in the below from me:

Post from Mark Brickman's Blog:

Read My Lipstick...No News Ideas

By Mark Brickman - Sep 5th, 2008 at 12:17 pm EDT

In an attempt to deliver a stirring, dramatic and historic speech, Sarah Palin instead resorted to a speech filled with unfair attacks, sarcasm and inaccurate references to herself and promising changes that were both disingenuous and not plausible.  Check out this article from her hometown newspaper http://www.adn.com/sarah-palin/story/515517.html

What Palin failed to mention is anything about many of her extreme positions on abortion rights, global climate change, equal pay for women and gun control issues.  She gave the impression that she is against government waste and fights for her citizens as a reformer, but her limited experience as mayor and then governor of Alaska shows us just the opposite.

But a recent list of books that she wanted banned from the Wasilla Public Library truly demonstrates that Palin not only has no new ideas, but is really a throwback to days of old when we needed to always be full of fear, to go back to days when we had a less than equal world and where anyone who does not look like Sarah Palin must fight every day for the same rights and privileges that she and her family have come to take for granted.

This is the list that comes from the records of the Wasilla library.  Most of these books are not a surprise, but some of them do raise some questions as to whether she wants citizens to be left completely uninformed and uninspired.

Here’s the list and a little preamble that goes along with the list from the person who provided this list of proposed banned books:

I am a librarian and unfortunately I have to warn against releasing this list. It seems that it is not accurate and came from an unreliable web source. However, it is true that Palin tried to harass the town librarian and threatened to fire her if she did not remove books which the Pit Bull found offensive.

Thank you for the admonition. I have no way to vet this information. But it should be taken into consideration for whatever value it has. I worked in a library for four years myself in my earlier life and become concerned if any person and particularly an elected official moves to get even one book banned.

Please keep posting these completely un-researched rumors. Your list is one that's been floating around the internet for years. The fact that you didn't realize this means you learned absolutely nothing about research during your "years" as a librarian... These base-less allegations will do nothing but fan the flames and make Palin even more popular than she is now. You're working harder for McCain than most volunteers! Keep up the good work!

After being admonished for posting blatantly false information, Brickman responds; "But it should be taken into consideration for whatever value it has." Are you kidding? Are you libs really THIS stupid? Hey, nummy, you were just informed that the post is FALSE. What possible value could it have? None to normal, honest, intelligent people. Your response says a lot about how you people think(?). Pathetic. No wonder you would actually consider voting for a zero like Obama.

You have no way to vet the information, so I can take it that you are purposefully submitting what you know to be a lie. Your submission has only the value of an unproven smear designed to denigrate and slime another. "Here’s the list and a little preamble that goes along with the list from the person who provided this list of proposed banned books"....do tell, so who is the "person who provided this list?" Don't misunderstand me...I have no problem with you continuing to post lies as it can only demean yourself and the candidate under whose banner you post, because everyone else will take THAT into consideration and give it full value, though it may not be the value or worth you intend.

As was pointed out, this incident is alleged to have occurred in 1996, but the first Harry Potter book was published 1998. The librarian (Mary Ellen Emmons) was never fired by Palin. The reasons Palin was minded to fire the librarian are not documented. Before believing the contents of chain-mails, check out www.snopes.com; they're pretty reliable.
Also, June Pinell-Stephens, chairwoman of the Alaska Library Association’s Intellectual Freedom Committee since 1984, has checked their files but found no record of any banned list or any incident involving Emmons.
This is right up there with "Barack was a practising Muslim," just because his mother enrolled him as Muslim in his elementary school and because he attended a mosque back then. Let's not leap to conclusions, not about anyone.

Obama campaign highlights Palin's 'zero' experience

"Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's campaign on Friday blasted his Republican rival's choice of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as a running-mate, highlighting her "zero" foreign policy experience."

Ok so I SHOULD take this to mean that Obama has a lot of experience?  Whatever experience he has in foreign policy (POLICY!) is minimal.  I think its risky for him or those around him to bring up experience.  In fact, I think in some small way McCain is using his choice as bait.  Think about it.

About the only thing of concern here is when it comes to debates.  Biden has been in politics a long time… if he can make Palin look like Edwards did it would be a serious blow at the last minute.  Of course, I don’t have any idea how well versed Palin is on issues and not very likely to be exposed to enough info over here.

Is Obama in over his head...? Maybe so says the bringer of Hope!

Ya, know... it doesn't matter what your stance is.   Obama has been tagged the "Gaffe Machine" for a reason.  Can you imagine if anyone other than a Democrat said this?  Of course even most Democrats would have the sense not to in the first place.

Was he trying to be funny?  I think the NON response is actually quite telling even if a little (lot) evasive.

Obama says pointed abortion query “above his pay grade”
Posted by: Ed Stoddard

DALLAS - U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama side-stepped a pointed query about abortion on Saturday by “mega-pastor” Rick Warren during a televised forum.

candidates3.jpg

Asked at what point a baby gets “human rights,” Obama, who strongly supports abortion rights, said: “… whether you’re looking at it from a theological perspective or a scientific perspective, answering that question  with specificity … is above my pay grade.”

He went on to reiterate his view that it was important to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies.

Republican presidential candidate John McCain, who followed Obama onto the stage of the nationally televised event, was more blunt and more emphatic.

He said a baby’s human rights began “at the moment of conception … I have a 25-year pro-life record.”

Clancy the next Nostradamus?

From Jim Geraghty @ National Review:

(I'm not kidding in the headline about the odd similarity to Tom Clancy's original Ghost Recon game, which had U.S. special forces secretly going into... T'bilisi, Georgia to deal with Russian invasion forces backed by ultra-nationalist hardliners. The "future date" of the 2001 game was... August 2008.)

Yeah, read that again.  Apparently, Tom could see this coming! heh.  Ok, not exactly but the date match is creepy.    I found this via a post by “see-dubya” on Malkin blog - read more via the links.

I think McCain has a more clear response on the issue but since *I* dont know a lot about it, I can’t really say who I agree with… but it isn’t Obama since he didnt really say that much.

So… Question: is Clancy about to be the next NostradamusAre the Lithuanians next?  Not that I put much stock in it…  I just enjoy the books and similar games.  :)

On-Screen and Off, Charlton Heston Embodied a High-Minded Code

As Moses in

As Moses in "The Ten Commandments," Heston parted the waters. Later, he would be a divisive symbol in his support of gun owners' rights. (Assocated Press)

By Stephen Hunter

Washington Post Staff Writer
Monday, April 7, 2008; Page C01

He was the hawk.

He soared. In fact, everything about him soared. His shoulders soared, his cheekbones soared, his brows soared. Even his hair soared.

And for a good two decades, Charlton Heston, who died Saturday at 84, was the ultimate American movie star. In a time when method actors and ethnic faces were gradually taking over, Heston remained the last of the ramrod-straight, flinty, squinty, tough-as-old-hickory movie guys.

He and his producers and directors understood his appeal, and used it for maximum effect on the big Technicolor screen. Rarely a doubter, never a coward, inconceivable as a shirker, he played men of granite virtue no matter the epoch. He played commanders, biblical prophets, Jewish heroes, tough-as-nails cowpokes, calm aviators, last survivors, quarterbacks and a president or two.

Follow the link for full story, its fitting!

Iran loves everyone, especially Eric Margolis

Ok, where to start...   Lets start with the morning paper handed to me at the McD's drive through.  No, lets go back a few days to an email...

There is an email floating around Malaysia that says, in short, "be like President Ahmedi Nijad" since he is so humble.  What?  Hitler kissed a baby or two... so make that at least TWO things they have in common.

Anyway.  Today I get the paper and in it is a copy of a story by Eric S Margolis.  You can read an online copy here: http://www.torontosun.com/News/Columnists/Margolis_Eric/2007/12/09/4715227-sun.php

The bit goes on about how nice Iran is and how they are not producing any weapons worth mentioning and even if they did, would take too long to be ready.  More anti-bush blahblahblah mixed in for good measure.  The article stresses how wrong Bush is on Iran building long range weapons, nukes, and especially long_range_nukes.

Quote from Eric:

So does SVR, Russia's intelligence agency. Iran's civilian nuclear power program eventually could produce highly enriched uranium for weapons, but there is no sign of Iran developing any long-range delivery capability.

Problem?  They have and are proud of it.  Read about what they are up to here:
http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1196847322495&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull

In short the above link says that not only has Iran been testing long range weaponry but is up front about it.

The Ashoura missile has a range of 2,000 kilometers and is capable of reaching Israel, US Army bases in the Middle East and eastern European cities, including Moscow, said the TV channel.

What else do we know and when did we know it?  The Eric writes like he knows everything... I find this a common trait with those that use "neocon" in a sentence.  Eric has to admit there is at least some "growing nuclear infrastructure"... all for peace Im sure.  He also states:

U.S. intelligence chief Mike McConnell made public a bombshell National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) report that concluded "with high confidence" Tehran had halted its rudimentary nuclear weapons program in 2003.

Gee, I wonder what happened in 2003?

Iconic Daredevil Evel Knievel Dies at 69

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - entertainmentminute Evel Knievel's hard life killed him—it just took longer than he or anyone else might have expected. The hard-living motorcycle daredevil, whose bone-breaking, rocket-powered jumps and stunts made him an international icon in the 1970s, died Friday. He was 69.

Man even *I* played with one of those friction "Stunt Cycle" toys.  Pull the cord and let 'er rip!  Carnage and crashes were to be certain.... it was pretty quick too!  Or at least my memory of it makes it so. heh.  There was also a crank setup that REALLY got things cooking.

Seems I'm not the only one that remembered the toy!
