Student health officials say a broad contraceptive program is 'totally needed.'
By KELLEY BOUCHARD Staff Writer October 16, 2007
Students who have parental permission to be treated at King Middle School's health center would be able to get birth control prescriptions under a proposal that the Portland School Committee will consider Wednesday. The proposal would build on the King Student Health Center's practice of providing condoms as part of its reproductive health program since it opened in 2000, said Lisa Belanger, a nurse practitioner who oversees the city's student health centers.
If the committee approves the King proposal, it would be the first middle school in Maine to make a full range of contraception available to some students in grades 6 to 8, said Nancy Birkhimer, director of teen health programs for the Maine Department of Health and Human Services. Most middle schoolers are ages 11-13.
Wow, just read that. Then realize parental notification is not REQUIRED. Why it isn't when its quite possible that underage sex is violating a law is beyond me.

Seems to me, no matter what you do to the one on the left, it will lack that certain something the one on the right has. Both are delivery vehicles (panel). Cars seem to be so uninspired now. Bleh.
Just in case you missed my last rant, read first then come back.

Carter Claims Bush Allows Torture

US President George W. Bush's administration tortures detainees in defiance of international law, former US president Jimmy Carter charged Wednesday.
"I don't think it, I know it, certainly," Carter told CNN television when asked if he believed the US administration allowed the use of torture.
History has already told us the results of Carter's methods. Mix in a little Pelosi style comment and no good will come of it.

While I wasnt alone you wouldnt know it from the pic. Heh. Food was at a great price (RM4.50ea) and atmosphere was nice (balcony). I had the "Yee Mee" with a watermelon drink. I cannot remember the name of the place tho! gaaaaa!
Someone else took better notes with pics here
We stopped there to pick up some books at a book sale. THREE bags of books later, we left. I now have LOTS of Tom Clancy to read.
As I'm sure she is aware, what is said will get repeated around the world. Part of the USA world image is shaped this way... some idiot America hating Pelosi type will make a statement and it gets repeated. Over and over.
Will anyone be surprised if those reading the headline have a negative view? Surprised if it buries itself as "fact" in the subconscious?

Oak Lawn Schools May Cancel Holiday Traditions
School District To Discuss Possible Cancellation Or Renaming Of Holiday Celebrations
Story by: Suzanne Le Mignot
(CBS) OAK LAWN, Ill. A southwest suburban school district has taken action, responding to the concerns of a parent who is Arabic.
But now, as CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot reports, other parents are angry that traditional school holidays will be renamed or even eliminated.
At least Sala Abour said, "To take away Halloween and Christmas from little kids, that is very wrong." So some on both sides get it. Another:
"That does not represent all the Muslims, all of the Arabs at that school," said Qais Nofel, the father of a student in Ridgeland School District 122.
Well, there is always HOME SCHOOLING for the ones complaining.
There was some heated discussion between parents outside Columbus Manor Elementary School in Oak Lawn on Friday. The thought of no more traditional holiday celebrations has many parents really upset.
For now, children in Ridgeland School District 122 will celebrate fall festival instead of Halloween and winter festival instead of Christmas.
Brenda Elvidge said, "It's not fair to our kids. This is America and that's an American tradition."

Beyonce dumps Malaysia show to avoid Muslim outcry
Tue Oct 2, 2007 1:43am EDT
KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - U.S. R&B star Beyonce Knowles has axed her debut concert in Malaysia in protest against the nation's ultra-strict dress code and over fears of a Muslim outcry over her show, an industry source said on Tuesday.
Her agent ICM cited a "scheduling conflict" as the reason, but the source said unofficially she was unhappy over a possible hostile reception in the mainly Muslim nation.
"They foresee that when she comes over to Kuala Lumpur, there will be protests against her," the source said. "They didn't want that to happen."
<snip>
Ironically, Beyonce will instead perform in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta on November 1. Indonesia is the world's most populous Muslim country.
Oh sure... Beyonce is sooooo trashy. Whatever. I'm not a fan but dang - her live show can't be THAT bad. I'll bet if she was pseudo Malaysian like Stefani it would be worth the effort! So in one way I hold Beyonce accountable for taking the easy way out, even though its enabling "do nothings" in the industry that could have taken care of the problem.
For the sake of argument, suppose she IS too trashy for Malaysia (I dont know). Indonesia is ok! huh? What about Akon!? Akon came to Malaysia and not a peep. "Smack That" - yeah, they should have.
